Electric Forklift Precautions

During the charging and discharging process of a battery, the water in the electrolyte gradually decreases due to electrolysis and evaporation, causing the electrolyte level to drop. If not replenished in time, this may shorten the battery's lifespan. Distilled water should be added promptly. Never use purified drinking water, as it contains various trace elements that can adversely affect the battery.

When adding electrolyte or water to a battery, ensure the electrolyte level is 10 to 15 millimeters above the plates. For batteries with two red lines, the electrolyte level should not exceed the upper red line. Overfilling the battery will cause electrolyte to overflow from the small holes in the battery cover. If this overflows between the positive and negative terminals, it will create a self-discharge circuit. In this case, wipe off the electrolyte or rinse thoroughly with boiling water.

If anything accidentally falls into the battery while adding electrolyte, never use metal objects to retrieve it. Use a wooden stick to remove the impurity. Using iron or copper wire will allow metal molecules to enter the battery under the corrosive effect of sulfuric acid, causing self-discharge and damaging the battery.

If a vehicle is not in use for more than 20 days, the negative terminal of the battery should be disconnected to prevent an electrical leakage accident.
